An impressive collection of stunning fashion photography was presented in the Galleria in the Mall of The Emirates. From beautiful black and white portraits, to photoshoots with every colour under the sun. I am a huge fan of photography and have been since quite a long time (now that doesn't mean i'm a pro or I'm even any good at it) but i think it takes a specific vision to shoot a great image. As they say, its not what is in the photograph that is important, but what you chose to leave out. And with the huge availability and popularity of Digital SLR's almost everyone has the access to good quality images, but a good photograph takes a lot more than just quality. Its about the lighting, the angel, the subject, the position, the colours, tones, textures, whats in focus, what isn't, aperture and all the other fancy photography terms which i have probably heard and just nodded to, not knowing the true meaning or how an earth to carry it out; oh and lets not forget the hours and hours of editing after the shot has been taken! Either way this exhibition was very fascinating to me, not only because of my love for photography, but it was fashion photography! What more do i need to say?
My favourite photograph from the exhibition was this one of Mads Mikkelesen taken by Heiko Richard. This of course if from the Hannibal series (the remake of the the Oscar winning performance by Anthony Hopkins in the movie Silent of the Lambs) Mikkelsen plays the role of Dr Hannibal Lecter in the series. A flamboyant character in three piece suits and a love for the arts. But all the background of his character aside; i fell in love with this photograph because of the dinner jacket and fashionable details, the lighting, his facial expression, every wrinkle on his face, his eyes, so captivating and mesmerising, as of he is about to say something but cannot. There truly is a story behind this photograph and i absolutely love it.
